March in Door County is a month of quiet transformation. The ice loosens its grip, the days stretch longer, and you can feel the peninsula shaking off winter and leaning into spring. While some of our favorite seasonal businesses are still a few weeks from throwing open their doors, the year-round spots are humming, the trails are calling, and the calendar ahead is filling up fast. From a springtime Easter getaway to cherry blossoms on the horizon to one of the best half marathons in the Midwest, there’s a lot to look forward to — and a lot of reasons to start planning your next trip to the Lodge.

Easter Weekend in Door County

Easter falls on Sunday, April 5 this year, and with Good Friday on the 3rd, it’s a perfect long weekend to bring the family to Door County. Kick things off on Saturday, April 4 at the Sister Bay Easter Egg Hunt, held at the Sister Bay Sports Park. Children of all ages can hunt for colored eggs — organized by age group — and keep an eye out for the golden egg to win a special prize.

For another family-friendly outing, hop aboard the Door County Trolley’s Easter Family Ride, a 30-minute trolley adventure featuring sing-along songs and a fun “I Spy” game along the route. Children receive a special treat, and kids 12 and under ride free. It’s the perfect ride for families with little ones.

Between the egg hunts and trolley rides, there’s still plenty of time to hike through Peninsula or Potawatomi State Park, take a scenic drive along Highway 42, and enjoy the quiet beauty of the peninsula before the summer crowds arrive. With our spring rates in effect, it’s a wonderful time to make some family memories. Book your Easter weekend at Open Hearth Lodge today!

Winter’s Last Stand?

If you’ve been following the news, you know that Door County just experienced something extraordinary. Winter Storm Elsa buried the peninsula under more than 33 inches of snow this past weekend, with drifts reaching 8 feet in some areas and winds gusting up to 60 miles per hour. It was one of the biggest snowstorms in the region’s recorded history. Roads were impassable, businesses closed, and our neighbors spent days digging out — some couldn’t even open their front doors.

It was a powerful reminder that Door County is still very much in the grip of winter, even as signs of spring start to appear. But here’s the thing about this place: we dig out, we help each other, and we get back to it. By midweek, shops were reopening, snowblowers were humming, and the community was doing what it does best — bouncing back. Spring is still coming, and when it arrives, it’s going to feel even sweeter. We’ll be here, warm and cozy at the Lodge, ready to welcome you.
